McCartney, a 6-foot, 185-pound senior quarterback, helped lead the Warriors to a 37-13 win over Snohomish on Saturday in the first round of the Class 4A state playoffs. He completed 11 of 15 passes for 209 yards and four touchdowns. McCartney’s scoring strikes - all in the first half - went for 35, 34, 27 and 23 yards, the first three going to Antoinne Wafer.

Ferreira, a sophomore, captured the 4A state title in the 100-yard breaststroke on Saturday. She won the event with an automatic All-American time of 1 minute, 4.84 seconds, bettering her top-seed preliminary time of 1:06.19. Ferreira placed fifth in the 200 individual medley (2:11.12) and also swam on the second-place 200-medley relay team (1:50.98) and the fourth-place 400-free relay (3:41.04).

Archbishop Murphy volleyball team

The Wildcats, coached by Jim Hardy, beat West Valley of Spokane 25-16, 25-14, 25-18 on Friday to earn their first state trophy, placing fifth at the 2A state tournament in Kennewick. The day before, Archbishop Murphy fell 3-2 to Pullman in the opening round, but bounced back to win two consolation rounds with a 3-2 victory against North Mason and a 3-0 win over Colville. For the tournament, Ashley Broadwell tallied 51 kills and 16 aces, Rachel Shober had 41 digs and 29 blocks and Patti Reeves made 139 assists.
